A working Cattle Station, a 28, 000 hectare property set at the foot of majestic Mount Mulligan. Mount Mulligan is an 18 kilometre long sandstone ridge that clearly dominates the surroundings savannah lanscape. These soaring ochre coloured mountain cliffs are around 10 times the size of Australia's most well-known rock, Uluru (Ayers Rock).

An integral part of aboriginal history , Mount Mulligan is known by indigenous people as the birthplace of the Rainbow Serpent and is regarded as one of the most sacred sites in Far North Queensland. The sandstone bluff is also attributed as being Queensland's oldest Aboriginal site and is connected with the KuKu Djungan people who call the mountain "Ngarrabullgan". Evidence of human occupation in shelters around the base of the sandstone ridge dates back some 37,000 years.

Ingigenous legend isn't the only thing Mulligan is noted for - the mountain holds some rather grim history for white settlers too. The small town that flanks the mountain was a cool mine until in 1921, Queensland's worst mining disaster strick, with an explosion killing all 75 miners trapped underground.

Nowadays the station has approximately 2,300 head of both Brahman and free range cattle which are mustered three times a year by the station owner Gordon Pringle and stockhands with the help of horses, working dogs and helicopters.

Mount Mulligan Station is the real deal, the quintessential outback endeavour.

Cool morning air and warm pastel colours glowing on the escarpment herald the start to another perfect outback day. Sit by the embers of the campfire with a steaming hot coffee or tea to consider your plans for the day.

Mount Mulligan Station offers many, varied activities to accommodate your interests and wishes. Whether you're looking for an adventure packed day or wanting to finish that book, there is something hre for everyone.
